New Balance asked Fuse to solve the challenge of educating retail sales associates (RSAs) about sneaker technology in a captivating way to engage the 18-24 year old audience.
Our concept was to integrate the information into a mobile app based game so the RSAs could be playing - and learning - during down times at work. The game itself was modeled after a casual, but addictive tile matching game. The matching game ensured the learning curve was low and the RSAs could focus on the educational information on screen. Upon completion of a game, the RSA's score was sent to a communal database. This allowed the RSAs to see rankings against others from across the country and motivated them to play again and again. All touches of the game from the colors, tile design, music, game title and format reflected the shoe technology to promote the cutting edge nature of New Balance.
The results of the program were outstanding. "...[RSAs] pulled the game up while I was in the store. They LOVE it! They said that the training tips at the end of each round were very useful as well." So well liked in fact that the average user played 108 games!
