Mountain Dew Athlete Update – April, 2009
Paul Rodriguez

Paul at The Warehouse
Paul was featured this month on entrepeneur.com in an article called “Chief Adrenaline Officers: For these action sports entrepreneurs, the term ‘daily grind’ has a whole new meaning.” The article also features Ryan Sheckler and Dave Mirra along with their business ventures. Entrepeneur.com says of P Rod: “For Paul Rodriguez, the stakes are even higher. At 24, he’s already thinking long-term, mostly because he’s always wanted to be his own boss, but also because he’s a new father. As a brand, Rodriguez started out a step ahead of the competition–he had name recognition before he ever stepped on a skateboard.” The article goes on to highlight Paul’s double X-Games gold wins, the first skateboarder to have a Nike shoe named after him, his shop Primitive and his influence upon young Latino culture. Commercials for the Summer Dew Tour were shot in April at Paul’s Warehouse in LA. The commercials feature Paul, Ryan Sheckler, Greg Lutzka, and Chaz Ortiz skating, FMX star Adam Jones and BMX pros Steve McCann, Daniel Dhers and Luke Parslow. Check out the behind-the-scenes story, video and Paul interview here.
The Maloof Money Cup - the “World’s Greatest Skateboarding Event” - has announced the top 36 street skaters to compete in the 2009 event on July 10-12 in Costa Mesa, CA. Paul will be taking part in the largest pursed event in the history of professional skateboarding.
Paul’s Mountain Dew photo shoot was also held in April. Photographer Ativa Jefferson shot Paul skating some of his favorite spots in LA as well as lots of lifestyle.
Paul also made an appearance on Rob Dyrdek’s MTV reality show “Fantasy Factory.” He won a Vespa.
In support of the upcoming release of PROOF (May 1st), InCase bags has announced a giveaway of Paul’s signature collection of bags - all you have to do is provide proof that you’re a skateboarder.
